About the Film:
A lively Bio-documentary Film about an extraordinary person, "PETE" follows the courageous trail of Peter D. Friesen, from humble beginnings in revolutionary Russia to the pinnacle of Engineering success in the United States of America.
A long time ago, necessity forced a young boy to think for himself. Under circumstances bordering on oppressive, he bravely began opening doors to his intellect, asking questions and learning to trust his intuition. With little formal education, he learned to repair machinery, learned to manufacture machinery and then to invent machinery and design computer programs that remain state of the art. With vision and dedication, he rose to the worldly peak of his chosen profession. Along the way, he learned from his mistakes and freely shared his knowledge with all those around him. With passion and conviction, he found the door to his heart.
This is a story about being human.
Using archival footage and current interviews, "PETE" is a story about one man and a story about all men: It is about droughts and doubts, pain and prejudice; it is about land, country, science and power; it is about trust and determination, acceptance and will; it is about faith, hope and feeling.
This is a story about living.
A temporal music soundtrack follows the mood while animated inserts simplify technical aspects of a multi-dimensional presentation that uses a variety of film and photographic formats. Child actors provide narrative and social commentary, allowing us to see Pete and the world around him through the eyes of our own innocence.
"PETE" tells his story and, in do doing, leaves a legacy of hope for young people today.
